Sant Jordi, El Periódico

Imagen
For the Sant Jordi edition of Abril , the literary supplement of El Periódico , Philip Stanton created a project that celebrates the people behind literature. He drew 70 hand-made ink portraits on vellum of authors, editors, literary agents, and the creative team of the 64-page magazine. The project emphasizes the human touch, no AI, no machine learning, just the same instinct to create that has existed since the earliest cave paintings. Each portrait reflects the artist’s personal interpretation, giving the illustrations warmth and character. Creative Director Jorge M. used 58 of the portraits as black-and-white spot illustrations for page headings, adding a cohesive visual identity to the magazine. The project celebrates Sant Jordi and the people who bring literature to life, showing that behind every story there is a human hand shaping it. You can see both the original drawings and the final results in the images below:

At  @philipstantonstudio  we're excited to continue a collaboration  with one of Europe’s leading interior design studios and galleries (and stores)  @en_linea_barcelona   . The exhibition features works spanning Stanton’s prolific career, from early conceptual pieces of the late 1980s to his most recent paintings and sculptures. Javier Serra and his talented team have carefully selected a range of Stanton’s paintings and sculptures to display alongside works by other remarkable artists, including Santimoix , Jaume Amigo , and Jaume Plensa. The thoughtful placement of Stanton’s pieces within the gallery space creates a dynamic dialogue with the furniture and lighting, designed by iconic creators such as Piero Lissoni, Carlo Scarpa, Charles Eames, and Jean Nouvel. Among the works on display is “Big Woman” , a mixed media piece on canvas measuring 124 x 124 cm, which exemplifies Stanton’s vibrant style and playful approach to form.
